Another excellent article and I remember this hotel. I know that the Church was a Free Church which has long gone – But I am racking my brain to think what is there now.
I worked on this hotel probably in the late 1980’s. Renovations were mainly fresh decor schemes and new carpets. All the bedrooms were refitted. It was a super building work on being in the Scottish Baronial style. I think it was quite successful initially but there was pressure for it to be converted to apartments and a new build alongside of more apartments.
Site of church now part of the car park for Golf Court. Still evidence of church gate pillars along the wall at Bank Street.
