My great aunt who I knew very well as a child. My father was Ian Nelson Smith son of Nessie’s brother John. I lived in Earlsferry in Aldersyde next door to Nelson cottage as a child leaving aged eight in 1956. Though J N Smith died in 1950 my granny continued living in Nelson Cottage until she died aged 96 in the mid 1990’s.
Hi Gordon I’ve just discovered this site – my mum was born In Nelson Cottage on 13/11/25 ! Her mother was Margaret Crombie – Auntie Louise sister.
I remember as a child visiting Nelson Cottage & A Louise would give my mum £1 to split between the 3 of us !! It got a lot of sweets I those days.
I still often visit Elie it’s a special place. Fiona
It was most certainly from a time past and which has certainly now gone. A quieter time, a more gentle time and an evecative and interesting read.
